Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are joining national efforts to crack down on distracted drivers.
Police said they will look for drivers who are texting or otherwise distracted during National Distracted Driver Week, which begins Monday.
Agencies from Mecklenburg County and across the state will focus enforcement efforts on distracted driving during the national “U Drive, U Text, U Pay” campaign. The campaign continues through next Friday in North Carolina and until April 18 nationwide.
CMPD is partnering with the Charlotte Department of Transportation and the Governor’s Highway Safety Program to spread the word about the dangers of distracted driving.

Police said 23 percent of Charlotte crashes are because of inattention or distraction.
