A tow truck driver was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 485 near Interstate 77, authorities said.
The collision happened around 8 p.m. on Thursday. The tow truck driver was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The N.C. Highway Patrol hasn’t released the name of the victim or the person driving the car.
WSOC-TV reported that the tow truck driver was tending to a stranded vehicle when he was struck. It was unclear whether rainy weather was a factor in the collision.
N.C. Department of Transportation cameras showed a stream of flashing lights on the highway from responding emergency vehicles.
Troopers have not announced whether charges will be filed against the car’s drivers.
