A 21-year-old man was fatally shot in east Charlotte late Thursday.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m., police found a man with gunshot wounds in the 4100 block of Atmore Street, off East Sugar Creek Road and The Plaza. Medic pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Police on Friday identified the victim as Lanaris Dashawn Isabell.

Isabell pleaded guilty in both 2014 and 2015 to misdemeanor possession of marijuana, court records show. He had a trial pending on a misdemeanor charge of resisting a public officer.

Police have not said what they believe led to the shooting or whether they have a suspect.
