Police were searching for a dark-green minivan that hit and killed a motorcyclist in north Charlotte.

Keith Anthony Ricks, 45, was riding a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southwest on Mallard Creek Road near Keaton Avenue when the van struck him shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, police said.

The front of the van struck the back right of the motorcycle, causing Ricks and the motorcycle to fall to the pavement and slide into the opposite lane. They were then struck by a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser whose driver was uninjured, police said.

Paramedics pronounced Ricks dead at the scene. Ricks was wearing a helmet, police said.

The van sped away, turning right onto nearby W.T. Harris Boulevard. It was last seen traveling southeast toward Interstate 85, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

N.C. Department of Transportation cameras captured images of the van as it drove away, police said.

The dark-green minivan has a roof cargo rack, a tinted license plate frame/cover and light-gray wheel covers. The roof of the van is extremely faded.

The van might have damage to its front right corner and a possibly damaged corner light or parking light.

Police said the van driver was a Hispanic male with no facial hair and with dark, short hair.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-432-2169.
