Man shot dead at house in northwest Charlotte

A man was fatally shot at a house in northwest Charlotte Thursday morning, and police say his killer was still on the loose later in the day.

Police identified the victim as Fredrick Antwone Butler, 40.

He was shot in a house on Helms Road, off Tom Sadler Road and near Mount Holly Road.

Butler had been shot multiple times, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Deputy Police Chief Jeff Estes told reporters. Medic pronounced him dead at the house shortly after police responded to the shooting at about 5:20 a.m.

CMPD detectives canvassed the area for witnesses, but have not released the name or description of a potential suspect.
