Man stopped for speeding in Rowan County is N.J. homicide suspect

A man jailed in Rowan County on a charge of speeding to elude arrest is wanted in a homicide case in New Jersey, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

On March 28, the State Highway Patrol arrested 33-year-old Arturo Alomas on Interstate 85. They soon learned he was a suspect in a homicide in Elizabeth, N.J.

At the request of N.J. authorities, Rowan County sheriff’s investigators obtained warrants to search Alomas and the vehicle in which he was arrested. Evidence was sent to New Jersey, and, as a result, N.J. police obtained a murder arrest warrant on Alomas in connection with the homicide.

Sheriff’s investigators on Wednesday charged Alomas with felony fugitive from justice. He was in the Rowan County Detention Center without bail.
