A Rock Hill woman was charged with animal cruelty after leaving a puppy locked in a storage unit, according to police.
Officers responded to a storage facility on Hearn Street after the owner said he heard a dog barking in a storage unit while opening an adjacent unit, according to a Rock Hill Police report. The owner told officers it is against leasing terms to have live animals inside the unit.
The owner cut the lock off the unit and found a small black puppy in a crate inside, police said. The lone bowl in the crate was empty and dry and the dog “appeared malnourished.”
Police spoke on the phone with the unit’s rentor, Britney Biegel, 23, who said she put the dog in the unit on Wednesday and was planning to pick it up when she moved into her new apartment Thursday.
