Gaston man charged in family member’s death

A Gastonia man is accused of shooting and killing a family member in his home.

Tom Jones Deason, 72, has been charged with one count of second degree murder. Police have not released the name of the deceased or said how the two were related.

Gaston County police were called to Haywood Terrace Saturday just before 11 p.m. They said two relatives were inside the home arguing when one pulled out a gun and shot the other. The victim was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center and later died.

Deason is being held at the Gaston County jail without bond.
