In a message to West Charlotte parents, Principal Timisha Barnes-Jones said “a CMPD investigation has resulted in the felony arrest and suspension of the West Charlotte band director.”
Barnes-Jones said school officials would have counselors at West Charlotte on Monday.
In March 2011, Gray was suspended by Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, according to a report by WBTV, the Observer’s news partner. The report didn’t say why.
Gray has spearheaded an effort to raise thousands of dollars for West Charlotte’s band for new instruments and travel, according to a 2014 profile in the Observer.
