Girl, 3, dies after falling off ATV

A three-year-old girl who fell off an all-terrain vehicle in Union County Monday has died, according to officials.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. in the 3600 block of Brief Road in Monroe. Deputies said the girl was riding on the back of the ATV with her older sister and fell off when they hit a bump.

The three-year-old struck her head, suffering serious injuries, and was taken to an area hospital. Officials confirmed the girl had died just after 8 p.m.

The girl's name has not been released.

Investigators said the ATV the sisters were riding was a Kawasaki Mule, which has a cargo area in the back.

Tony Underwood with the Union County Sheriff's Office said the incident was "an unfortunate tragedy."

There is no word if any charges will be filed.
