2 people, including CMPD officer, injured in head-on wreck
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer and another person were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision in northeast Charlotte Monday night.
CMPD investigators hadn’t released the name of the officer or of the other pepole involved in the 10 p.m. wreck, but CMPD Spokeswoman Officer Jessica Wallin said the officer and the driver of the other vehicle both had nonlife-threatening injuries.
Images from WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, showed a mangled SUV and a damaged police cruiser at the site of the collision, on University City Boulevard near Interstate 85.
Officiers told WBTV that the SUV was driving on the wrong side of the road, possibly with its lights off, before striking the cruiser. Alcohol is suspected in the collision.
Police expect to release more details on Tuesday.
