Lenoir man charged with attempted murder after shootout with police

A 49-year-old Lenoir man who was involved in a shootout with police Friday has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Officers were called to 1914 Starcross Road at about 1 p.m. on reports of shots being fired.

When officers arrived, they made contact with the resident, Harold David Houser III. He fired on the officers and they returned fire, according to a report from the Lenoir Police Department.

Houser was injured and transported to Caldwell Memorial Hospital after being treated at the scene, according to the report.

He has been released from the hospital and in custody at the Caldwell County Detention Center, with bond set at $1 million.

Details about the attempted murder charge were not immediately available.
