Two people have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed a motorcycle driver April 4 on Mallard Creek Road in northeast Charlotte.

Gerson Gutierrez, 24, and Shaquala Davis, 21, have been charged in connection with the wreck. They are in custody at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

On the day of the collision, Keith Anthony Ricks was traveling southwest on a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle around 5:12 p.m. in the 8000 block of Mallard Creek Road, near Keaton Avenue, according to a report from Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

A green minivan turned left from Keaton Avenue into the path of the motorcycle, the report said.

The front of the van struck the back right side of the motorcycle, causing the motorcycle and rider to fall to the ground and slide into the opposing lane of traffic, the report said.

The motorcycle and rider were struck by a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser, according to the report. Ricks died at the scene.

The driver of the van drove off and was seen turning right onto W.T. Harris Boulevard. The van was later seen traveling southeast towards Interstate 85, the report said.

On April 8, investigators found the van at an undisclosed location. Detectives found and arrested Gutierrez on Monday at a hotel on West Sugar Creek Road.

He has been charged with felony hit and run, misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless driving and driving with a revoked license.

Gutierrez’s girlfriend, Shaquala Davis, also was taken into custody. She has been charged with harboring a fugitive.
