Authorities captured a prisoner shortly after noon Wednesday who escaped from the minimum-security Brown Creek Correctional Institution near Polkton 12 hours earlier.
Devin Brown, 22, was serving about five years for habitual impaired driving. He was scheduled for release in March 2019.
Brown was missing at the midnight inmate count, said Keith Acree, spokesman for the N.C. Department of Public Safety. Acree said prison officials do not yet know how Brown escaped.
Department of Public Safety officers and dogs captured Brown in woods in Landis, Rowan County, Acree said.
The prison is about 50 miles southeast of Charlotte in Anson County.
