A Matthews man who robbed three stores over 10 days was sentenced to at least 12 years and eight months in prison.

David Renaldo Brown, 53, pleaded guilty in Mecklenburg County Superior Court recently to three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.

The robbery spree began on Sept. 7, 2015, when Brown pulled a handgun on a clerk at MC Food Mart on Sam Wilson Road, ordered the clerk to the ground and stole $389 from the cash register, prosecutors said.

On Sept. 15, 2015, Brown robbed a Dollar General store on Albemarle Road. He again pulled a handgun on the clerk, demanded all of the cash in the register and took about $200.

Two days later, Brown flashed a knife at a clerk at an Exxon convenience store in Matthews and ordered the clerk to give him cash from the register and cigarettes.

Police used surveillance footage and fingerprint evidence to identify Brown as the suspect, prosecutors said.
