Man gets 8 years for trying to kill Valdese woman

A Georgia man was sentenced to at least eight years in prison this week for trying to kill a Valdese woman.

Walter Edward Nichols II, 25, pleaded guilty in Burke County Superior Court to attempted murder in the 2013 stabbing.

Prosecutors said Nichols and the victim, who was 23 at the time, had lived together for about three months when they argued at a bar in Mountain View and Nichols shoved the woman against a car door. When the woman told Nichols their relationship was over, Nichols repeatedly stabbed her in her chest, left forearm, jaw and neck, prosecutors said.

After begging for her life, the woman got away from Nichols and ran to her grandmother’s apartment nearby. Police and Burke County EMS took the woman to Valdese Hospital for treatment.
