Security guard fatally shoots armed intruder at Concord business

A security guard shot and killed one of two armed assailants who tried to rob an Internet sweepstakes business in Concord late Tuesday, police said.

At 10:30 p.m., two men brandishing firearms entered in the 300 block of Union Cemetery Road. “As the two suspects entered the establishment, one suspect was shot by an armed security guard working at the time,” Concord police said in a news release Wednesday.

Police said they found Abdur Rahim Muhammad, 32, of Hillsboro dead from gunshot wounds.

The other intruder left before officers arrived, and police said they don’t know who he is.

Police encourage anyone who knows the identity of the second intruder to call the Concord Police Department at 704-920-5000 or Cabarrus County Crime Stoppers 704-93-CRIME (27463).

Concord police Major Douglas Wilhelm told the Observer it’s too early in the investigation to say whether police believe the guard acted in self-defense. No charges have been filed.
