2 charged in fatal Burke County shooting surrender without incident

Authorities have arrested two men wanted in the fatal shooting of a man in Burke County.

Christopher Eron Williams, 35, was shot in a mobile home park off Jamestown Road near Morganton early Thursday, Burke County Sheriff Steve Whisenant said.

Williams was pronounced dead at Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge Morganton.

Investigators issued arrest warrants charging William Chase Pate, 29, of Morganton, with murder, and Cordero Louis Thompson, 27, of Valdese, with accessory after the fact of murder.

Authorities on Friday learned Pate and Thompson were at a home in Old Fort in McDowell County.

Officers from various agencies surrounded the home and ordered everyone inside to come out, Whisenant said.

The homeowner came out first, followed by a friend of the homeowner and then Thompson and Pate, all without incident, the sheriff said.
