Police said a 95-year-old Shelby woman was killed in her home Tuesday, and they charged the woman’s granddaughter and a man with first-degree murder.
On Tuesday, police found Mildred Scarboro Blanton unresponsive in her home in the 500 block of Woodside Drive. Cleveland County EMS paramedics declared Blanton dead. Police are not disclosing how they believe Blanton died.
Police checked on Blanton after a Cleveland County sheriff’s deputy found her Subaru station wagon on Maple Springs Church Road, Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford told the Shelby Star.
Police arrested Ashley Blanton Sanders, 46, on a charge of first-degree murder, and Christopher Thomas Sizemore, 24, on charges of first-degree murder, larceny of a motor vehicle and first-degree burglary.
Sheriff’s investigators found Sizemore near Blanton’s Subaru, Ledford told the Star.
Sanders and Sizemore were jailed without bail.
