Funeral scheduled for firefighter who died during rescue dive

A firefighter who died trying to recover the body of a missing swimmer will be buried on Saturday, officials announced.

Bradley Long, 28, died after he and two other rescue divers had trouble in murky waters beneath Lake Norman on Monday. The investigation into his death is ongoing.

Long’s family will receive visitors at the Mountain View Baptist Church in Maiden on Friday between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the same church the next day beginning at 11 a.m. The church is at 5045 East Maiden Rd. in Maiden.

Long is survived by his mother, father, brother and sister as well as his longtime girlfriend and many friends and colleagues, according to a news release from Catawba County.

Investigators have not said what they suspect went wrong in the search for the missing swimmer, identified as 29-year-old Isaiah Cruz. Cruz and two other boaters jumped into Lake Norman on Sunday, but Cruz never resurfaced. The search for his body stretched over two days.

It was ultimately recovered by divers with the Charlotte Fire Department.
