Man, 82, accused of killing 79-year-old wife

An 82-year-old Charlotte man has been arrested and accused of killing his 79-year-old wife.

Police have identified the victim as Charlene Ellen Norris. James Nelson Norris was charged with murder and is in Mecklenburg jail. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have not released a motive.

Around 9 a.m. Thursday, officers were asked to assist paramedics at a home on Langford Court, near where Albemarle Road intersects Lawyers Road. When they got there, they found Charlene Norris dead of a gunshot wound.

Police say James Norris voluntarily went to police headquarters to be questioned by homicide detectives. After the interview, he was charged with murder.

The killing remains under investigation. Officers encouraged anyone with information on the shooting to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) to speak directly to a homicide detective. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
