Stephen Singleton, 34, who escaped from New Hanover Correctional Center in Wilmington on July 20, was apprehended by New Hanover County sheriff's deputies.
He was injured and arrested after crashing his stolen vehicle while trying to evade capture, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Before escaping, Singleton was serving time for habitual misdemeanor assault and larceny. He was scheduled to be released in early 2018.
The Department of Public Safety said he will now face charges for felony escape from prison and additional charges if he committed other crimes during his attempted escape.
