Hickory police search for man who placed card skimmers on ATMs
ATM card skimmers might have comprised customer information at two ATMs in Hickory this month, police said.
Police released surveillance photos of a man believed to have placed card skimmers on ATMs on Highway 70 Southeast and North Center Street this month.
Police advised users of ATMs and other devices that read financial card information to gently pull on the card reader to make sure it is securely affixed to the machine. The reader should not be loose or detached from the machine.
If anything appears suspicious about the machine, first notify the bank that operates the ATM machine, police said. If the bank confirms a possible skimmer on the machine, call police so the device can be removed and analyzed.
Anyone with information about the two recent card skimmer cases is asked to contact Hickory police Investigator J. Patterson at 828-261- 2626 or jpatterson@hickorync.gov.
