Newton man sentenced to at least 5 years for trafficking drugs
A Newton man was sentenced to at least five years in prison after pleading no contest to drug trafficking charges this week.
Shane Eddie Greer, 36, pleaded no contest to trafficking in opiates by possession and trafficking in opiates by transportation in Burke County Superior Court, the Burke County District Attorney’s Office said.
Long View police learned from a confidential source in April 2015 that Greer planned to sell hydrocodone pills and marijuana at a business in eastern Burke County, prosecutors said.
Sgt. Justin Roberts waited for Greer to drive up and found 71 hydrocodone pills in the dash compartment, after Greer let him search the vehicle. Greer admitted that he planned to sell the pills to employees at the business.
A search of Greer’s cell phone turned up text messages related to pill sales, prosecutors said.
