Police make 6 DWI arrests at Eastway Drive checkpoint
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police made six driving while impaired arrests at an overnight checkpoint on Eastway Drive in northeast Charlotte.
Thirteen drivers were charged with having no license and 10 for having suspended licenses, CMPD Sgt. J.D. Wood said.
Police filed a total of 34 charges, including two for drug offenses, two for open containers of alcohol and one related to a concealed weapon, Wood said.
Police staged the checkpoint in the 300 block of Eastway Drive, just south of North Tryon Street. Sixteen officers participated, including from the Cornelius Police Department.
