New private school opening in Huntersville

A group that has been involved in opening several charter schools around Lake Norman is now launching a new private school in Huntersville.

Legacy Leadership Academy will be led by Ashley Kopp, who most recently was the assistant director of the Huntersville charter school Thunderbird Preparatory Academy.

The school is working with Banyan Strategic Partners, a company led by a founding board member of Lake Norman Charter. Until recently, Banyan served Thunderbird Prep. The two severed ties in March, midway through the charter school’s first year.

In its first year, Legacy plans to have grades K-5 on a temporary site at Christian Montessori of Lake Norman beginning this fall. The school ultimately plans to develop a 77-acre site off Huntersville-Concord Road and serve grades K-12.

Tuition is expected to be $7,400 per year.
