Carmel Christian head of school resigns
The head of school at Carmel Christian School in Matthews has resigned from his position.
J. Van Wade offered his resignation to the board last Tuesday, and it was accepted, Carmel Baptist Church executive pastor Jay Hancock said. The school is a ministry of the church.
Hancock declined to say why Wade resigned. “I’m just not at liberty to discuss personnel matters,” he said.
Wade did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Wade previously was a teacher and middle school principal at Charlotte Christian on Sardis Road. He was briefly a principal at Gaston Christian School before beginning at Carmel Christian in the early 2000s, according to Observer archives.
Associate head of school Jack Kelley will lead Carmel Christian while a new leader is sought.
Hancock said the school is communicating with parents that Carmel Christian appreciates Wade’s 15 years of service and is focused on moving forward.
Carmel Christian has about 800 students.
