Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has named Vincent Golden as the new principal at Butler High School, replacing former principal John LeGrand, who recently took a new job with the district.

Golden has worked at CMS for 13 years. Since 2014, he has served as the principal of Northridge Middle School. Prior to that, he was principal of Lebanon Road Elementary from 2012 to 2014, and an interim principal and assistant principal from 2010 to 2011 at Mallard Creek Elementary.

“Golden has demonstrated exceptional leadership during his time in CMS,” Superintendent Earnest Winston said in a statement.

The principal job at Butler High School opened after LeGrand was promoted to executive director of the Central 2 Learning Community.

LeGrand had been the principal at Butler since 2014, and was the principal of Bain Elementary from 2010 to 2014. He has worked at CMS since 2003.

LeGrand was the principal at Butler during the 2018 fatal shooting of a student. One year later, LeGrand led the school in a “day of remembrance and kindness” on the anniversary of the shooting.
