National PTA conference coming to Charlotte this week

Education leaders from around the country will be in Charlotte this week as the National PTA brings its annual conference to the city.

More than 1,000 people involved with parent-teacher associations are expected to be on hand for the conference, which begins Thursday at the Charlotte Convention Center, and runs through Sunday morning.

Headline speakers include Steve Perry, a high profile education innovator who founded the Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, Conn.; and Shanna Peeples, the 2015 National Teacher of the Year from Amarillo, Texas.

Panel discussions will also focus on some of the hottest topics in education today: technology in schools, bullying, engaging Hispanic families and the Common Core standards.
