Charlotte area schools will be closed Tuesday following winter storm

Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools will be closed to students Tuesday, after Winter Storm Izzy’s mix of snow, ice and sleet brought much of the city and region to a standstill.

A make-up day is scheduled for Feb. 21. The EOC and EOG testing make-up schedule will be determined shortly and communicated with students and families who are impacted.

The school district made the announcement Monday afternoon as the area was still feeling the effects of Sunday’s storm.

Other districts have canceled classes as well: Iredell-Statesville Schools will be closed to students Tuesday, as will Gaston County Schools.

Fort Mill, S.C. schools will operate remotely, the district said Monday.

And Cabarrus County Schools will be closed to students too, with an optional remote day for staff.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools were already closed Monday, Jan. 17, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
