Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is hosting a series of community listening sessions about safety on campuses.

There are five remaining sessions of “Let’s Talk About Safety Night” — one was held this week at Myers Park High School. Meetings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., and participation can be virtual or in-person.

March 21 in the South Mecklenburg High School Auditorium

March 22 in the West Charlotte High School Auditorium

March 24 in the East Mecklenburg High School Auditorium

March 29 in the Julius Chambers High School Auditorium

April 6 in the Hopewell High School Auditorium

Eve White, CMS’ executive director of communications, said although a school site is listed as the event host, the sessions are open to the entire middle and high school learning community.

Meeting links, in-person RSVPs and other information can be found at https://www.cms.k12.nc.us/cmssafety

Sessions will attempt to draw feedback from staff, students, parents and community members on questions regarding safety, including “What does a safe school look like?”

Over the next few months, the district is shoring up safety on several campuses with the distribution of clear backpacks and installation of body scanners like those used at Carolina Panthers’ games. CMS has seen a record-high number of firearms reported on campuses this school year.
