Bubble-blowing, waving good-bye and sending off retired teachers with a parade were some of the ways students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spent the final day of the 2021-22 school year.

For their final day of school at Elizabeth Lane Elementary, students blew bubbles and then sent off buses with a wave. At Starmount Elementary School, teachers who are retiring were treated to a parade, and then students who left by bus and car were sent off with pom-poms.

We call it “Bubbles and Buses,” says Crystal Lail, the principal of Elizabeth Lane Elementary. Lail says that it’s an annual tradition spanning back more than a decade.

Students at Greenway Park, Smithfield, Selwyn and Lake Wylie elementary schools received big wave-offs at the end of the day.

School is now out for the summer. Students are set to return for the 2022-2023 year on Aug. 29.

Starting with Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology at 8:30 a.m., graduations start Saturday and continue through Thursday.
