Family of student killed in UNCC shooting helps create jewelry for scholarship event
A local jewelry store is helping to keep alive the memory of Ellis Reed Parlier — a UNC Charlotte student killed during the 2019 campus shooting.
Boutique jeweler Kendra Scott and UNCC will host their third annual event Wednesday to benefit the Ellis Reed Parlier Scholarship. The four-year scholarship covers tuition for a Central Academy of Technology & Arts student who plans to enroll at UNCC.
Reed graduated from CATA in 2017.
“Gifts to the Ellis Reed Parlier Scholarship Fund will go to celebrate the life and interests of Reed,” according to the scholarship website. “He was a vibrant, witty young man who will be remembered for his kindness, strong spirit, and being a caring son, brother, friend and classmate.”
Parlier’s mother, Julie, and sister, Mallory, worked with Kendra Scott to create jewelry that will be available for purchase Wednesday.
The fundraiser will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kendra Scott’s SouthPark location on Sharon Road. Shoppers who spend $100 or more in-store will receive a “free gift.”
Attendees also will be able to participate in a raffle for a chance to win a package containing four passes to the Charlotte 49ers’ Tailgate Village and a football game for the upcoming season.
Anyone unable to attend can order special jewelry online at kendrascott.com and use the code GIVEBACK-NINER at checkout until Aug. 14 to support the scholarship.
