Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools investigating bus fight involving parents
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is investigating a fight on one of its buses Tuesday that involved parents.
Principal Jacqueline Barone said in a message sent to families of students at Piedmont Open IB Middle School that an incident happened on Bus 402.
“We are dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment in our schools as well as on our school buses,” Barone said. “Fighting is disruptive and a violation of the CMS Code of Student Conduct. The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority and we ask parents to support our efforts to maintain a safe environment by setting a positive example for their children.”
CMS didn’t provide further details about what happened or how parents were involved in the fight.
Barone confirmed the CMS Police Department and administrators are actively investigating the incident. She asked that parents speak to their children about appropriate behavior on buses.
“Remind them of the serious consequences of their actions,” she said.
This isn’t the first time CMS has had to deal with a fight on a bus that involved parents.
In January, CMS investigated a fight involving two students on a school bus, where an adult reportedly brought a gun to a bus stop. The altercation happened as a bus from Whitewater Middle School arrived at one of the students’ stop in a neighborhood off Sam Wilson Road in west Charlotte.
According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department report, the incident occurred at Buckvalley and Pleasant Dale drives.
