Read the Supreme Court decision in UNC and Harvard’s race-conscious admissions case
The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday struck down UNC-Chapel Hill and Harvard University’s admissions policies that take race into account.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the opinion for a court divided 6-3 between conservatives and liberals, in a landmark ruling on affirmative action with nationwide consequences.
Over 237 pages, Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor both wrote dissents, joined by Justice Elena Kagan. Justices Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas and Justice Brett Kavanaugh all wrote separately in concurring opinions.
