A northwest Charlotte elementary school was on lockdown Wednesday morning, after a person was found with a handgun on school grounds.

The person was arrested without incident at Oakdale Elementary and charged with a weapon law violation, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report. The gun was a Glock 30, .45-caliber black semi-automatic pistol, the report said.

The incident report did not name the suspect, and said no students were involved. It said the incident wasn’t related to anything that occurred on school property.

Susan Vernon-Devlin, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokesperson, said the school was locked down during student arrival. The lockdown at Oakdale Elementary was lifted later.

Vernon-Devlin didn’t provide any additional details, and deferred questions to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
