Jamie Brooks, the principal at Ardrey Kell High School, announced her plans to retire on June 1 in a message the school district shared with families on Thursday.

“The decision was not made lightly as my heart and soul are committed to Ardrey Kell and CMS,” read a message from Brooks. “I love each and every one of you and am devastated to miss the graduation of this year’s class.”

The announcement came after Brooks was suspended with pay. The district has not said what led to the May 2 suspension.

The CMS message to families said Assistant Principal Tomica Wright would continue to act as principal at Ardrey Kell.

A video posted on the Ardrey Kell Parent Teacher Student Organization private Facebook page showed staff in an auditorium receiving the news about Brooks’ retirement from Assistant Superintendent Cristi Bostic.

Bostic asked that staff members not share news about Brooks’ retirement so that Brooks could announce it in the message to families and staff.
