Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, other districts call off classes again after snow

Tuesday classes are canceled due to snow, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials announced Monday afternoon.

Charlotte is experiencing a second consecutive weekend with below-freezing temperatures, with final snow totals from a weekend storm ranging from 6 to 12 inches. Meanwhile, the northern metro area of Mooresville, Concord, Kannapolis and Salisbury got 12 to 17 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Those are snow numbers the Charlotte area hasn’t seen in years.

CMS canceled school on Monday and is planning the same for Tuesday.

“All CMS district, school and work locations will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026,” a CMS spokesperson said in a news release. “This includes the cancellation of all school activities and programs, including Before-School Enrichment Programs (BSEP) and After-School Enrichment Programs (ASEP), as well as Community Use of Schools.”

The cancellation will not require a make-up school day, CMS said. Last week, CMS canceled classes Monday, had remote learning days Tuesday and Wednesday and delayed the start of in-person classes by two hours on Thursday and Friday.

The district also is moving mid-year graduation ceremonies to Feb. 12.

Here’s how other districts in the region are planning for class Tuesday.
