Four school campuses in Charlotte, Huntersville and Cornelius are slated to get new cellphone towers under a contract up for approval at Tuesday’s school board meeting.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools started leasing the Berkley Group space for towers on school grounds about five years ago. The arrangements have sometimes proven controversial with parents who consider the towers unsightly, but they bring the district $22,200 a year per site for unused space.

Sites up for approval Tuesday are Hawthorne High and Eastway Middle School in Charlotte, the Barnette Elementary/Bradley Middle campus in Huntersville and the Hough High/Bailey Middle campus in Cornelius.

Tuesday’s board agenda is light, with an update on facilities and capital as the main item.

▪ When and where: 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 267 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 E. Fourth St.

▪ Public input? The meeting is open to the public but no comments will be taken.

▪ Stay informed: Check the agenda and link to live videostreaming at www.cms.k12.nc.us/boe/Pages/SchoolBoardMeetings.aspx. Meetings also air live on CMS-TV Cable 3.
