21 CMS magnet schools get honors from national group

Seven Charlotte-Mecklenburg magnet schools got the highest distinction from Magnet Schools of America.

Barringer Academic Center, Collinswood Language Academy, Cotswold Elementary, Elizabeth Traditional Elementary, Idlewild Elementary, Oaklawn Language Academy and Palisades Park Elementary were named schools of excellence by the group.

Another 14 CMS magnet schools were named schools of distinction.

According to a CMS statement, the national group recognizes schools for high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation/diversity efforts, specialized teaching staff and parent/community involvement.
