Davidson charter school holds first graduation
Community School of Davidson, a K-12 charter school, held its first commencement ceremony Thursday with 111 graduates.
Seven of them enrolled as kindergarteners, when the school opened as a private school, said founder and school director Joy Warner. Several others joined the class in third grade, when the school was approved to become a tuition-free public school in 2004. Like many charters, Community School of Davidson expanded by one grade level a year. It has almost 1,300 students.
Commencement took place at the Belk Theater of the N.C. Blumenthal Performing Arts Center in uptown Charlotte. Staff reports
