A person in Charlotte won part of the Mega Millions jackpot. How to claim the prize
The second-highest Mega Millions jackpot prize is no longer up for grabs.
According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, the $1.35 billion jackpot went to one lucky ticket sold in Maine.
But someone in Charlotte also took home part of the prize.
A $2 ticket sold at the Kwick Mart on Albemarle Road is bringing one local winner $1 million. So what do you do if you think it could be you? Here are multiple ways to find out if you won:
Scan your lottery ticket online or at a local store
You can scan your tickets on your phone with the free ‘NC Lottery Official Mobile App’ or at a self-service ticket checker at any store that sells lottery tickets. According to the NC Lottery, you can pass the bar code under the scanner in-person or online to check if you have the winning numbers.
Check your email for lottery drawing results
When you make an NC lottery account, you can sign up to receive emails with the results for certain drawings that’ll be sent twice a day.
Watch for results on TV or online
You can watch the live lottery drawings on WSOC/WAXN TV64 in Charlotte. You can also rewatch drawings on the NC Lottery website.
NC Lottery officials say the winner has 180 days from the drawing to claim the prize. If you have the winning ticket, here’s what you need to do to get paid:
Sign your ticket and take it to a claim center
You need to sign the back of your original ticket to collect your prize. There are different claim centers to get your money, depending on how much you’ve won.
If you’ve won less than $600, you can take your winning ticket to any store, the Regional Claim Center, NC Lottery headquarters, or mail it. According to NC Lottery, you’re not allowed to collect your prize at a store if it’s more than that.
The NC Lottery headquarters is in Raleigh at 2728 Capital Blvd. The Charlotte Regional Claim Center is located at 5029-A West W. T. Harris Blvd.
For prizes $600 or more, make sure to bring an NC Lottery Winner Claim Form, a photo ID and your social security card. If you plan to mail your ticket in, make sure it’s sent in within 180 days of the drawing, according to NC Lottery.
