Moving a loved one into a nursing home can be a daunting process with numerous places to choose from.
And one of the most stressful parts can be finding a facility that feels safe and secure.
To aid families in making their decision, Medicare releases ratings for nursing homes based on a number of factors such as health inspections and other quality measures.
Here’s what to know about how Medicare’s nursing home ratings work and how Charlotte-area facilities performed in their latest evaluations:
How does Medicare rate nursing homes?
Medicare rates nursing homes on a five-star scale, from “much above average” to “much below average.”
A nursing home’s overall rating “combines results and data from” how the nursing performed in three categories: health inspections, staffing and quality measures.
Still, Medicare notes, evaluating nursing homes’ ratings isn’t “a substitute for visiting the nursing home.”
