A Charlotte Subway restaurant received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department after inspectors noticed employees not washing their hands before preparing food.

The Subway at 4023 Brookshire Blvd. received a score of 89 during its April 5 inspection.

Health department inspectors cited the restaurant after two employees were seen handling money, then putting on gloves to make sandwiches without washing their hands, documents show.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Food debris on kitchen equipment

  • Turkey and steak stored above required temperatures

  • Open bags of lettuce without expiration dates

  • Food stored on the floor

This is the restaurant’s first “B” grade, documents show.

The Charlotte Observer contacted the restaurant for comment regarding its score before publication.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.
