The city of Charlotte Solid Waste department offers convenient curbside trash and recycling services, but if your bins are in bad shape, you may need to get them repaired or replaced.

Trash cans stored outside may get damaged after being exposed to the elements. Bins are also targeted by wild animals, such as raccoons, for easy access to food scraps.

If your trash cans are in poor condition, here’s how to get them repaired or replaced in Charlotte.

How to: Trash cart fixed or replaced in Charlotte

For trash bin repairs or replacement, you can call the city’s customer contact center at 311 or 704-336-7600. Hours for the call center are 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

You can also send an email to cartsadmin@charlottenc.gov.

You must put your trash cart on your curb the day you call or email for a service request, a spokesperson for the city told The Charlotte Observer in an email.

“Solid Waste will evaluate if it is in need of repair or replacement,” the spokesperson said. “If it is a repair, staff can make repairs to the cart at the curbside.”

All service requests are completed within 48 hours, and there is no cost for repairs or replacement, according to the spokesperson.
