A north Charlotte restaurant received its second “B” grade in less than a year from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, the presence of insects and dirty kitchen equipment.

▪ Cottage Restaurant, 1704 Harris Houston Rd., received a score of 85 during its May 23 inspection.

Health department inspectors cited the restaurant after finding “several flies” in the kitchen area, county documents show.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Employee not washing hands

  • Raw tuna and salmon stored over cook chicken

  • Vegetables stored on top of boxes in walk-in cooler

  • Dishes with dents, holes and peeling

  • Dirty floors and kitchen equipment

This is the restaurant’s tenth “B” grade since 2014, with the previous one coming in September 2023. The restaurant also received three “C” grades during the same time period, with the most recent in August 2022.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.
