A north Charlotte fast food restaurant received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, the presence of insects, and multicolored buildup on soda nozzles and inside a cooler.

▪ Popeyes, 4422 Sunset Rd., received a score of 86.5 during its May 30 inspection.

Health department inspectors cited the restaurant after finding “flying pests throughout the facility,” county documents show.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Shrimp and chicken in hot holding stored below required temperatures

  • Employees not washing their hands

  • Black buildup on soda nozzles and ice shoot

  • Yellow debris on walk-in cooler door

  • Restrooms in need of cleaning

  • Utensils stored in dirty canister

This is the restaurant’s first “B” grade.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70 percent.
