Memorial Day might change your garbage, recycling and yard waste collection schedule. Here’s how the holiday will affect your pickup.

Garbage, recycling and yard waste will not be collected in Charlotte on Monday, May 25 in celebration of Memorial Day.

In previous years, trash and recycling have been collected as usual during Memorial Day. City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services changed the holiday schedule for 2026.

Residents should expect:

  • No trash collection on Memorial Day.
  • Crews will begin service again on Tuesday and work through Friday to complete all routes.
  • No Saturday collection during the holiday week.
  • No yard waste collection during the week.

City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services recommends residents set their carts out on the normal collection day and leave them until they are collected. If garbage collection does not occur within 48 hours of the normal collection day, call 311 or 704-336-7600.

All Mecklenburg County Solid Waste facilities will be closed on Monday and reopen Tuesday, May 26.

Mecklenburg pickup schedules

Cornelius, Davidson, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville do garbage collection through Waste Pro. Davidson does garbage every other week, and the week of May 25 is an off week. The other towns’ Waste Pro services will be delayed one day in observance of Memorial Day.
