Bull riding, beer drinking and trick-or-treating: 4 things to do in the Lake Norman area
Fall is upon us, and there’s no shortage of things to do around the Lake Norman area.
There’s something fun for all ages, including a rodeo complete with bull riding and cattle roping, a festival featuring some seasonal beer favorites and a Halloween event for you and your kids to satisfy your sweet tooth early.
Here are four events in the Lake Norman area this weekend.
J.R.’s Pro Rodeo
Location: Denver Baptist Church, 6917 Forest Hills Dr., Denver NC 28037
Neighborhood: Denver
When: Oct. 21-22, 6:30 p.m.
Details: Live rodeo events will include bronco riding, calf roping, mutton busting, barrel racing and bull riding. BBQ, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, french fries, funnel cakes, popcorn, candy apples and more will be available for purchase.
Cost: $20 per night for adults; $5 for kids 11 and under, free for kids under 3. Cash is the only form of payment accepted.
Hooked on Cornelius
Location: Robbins Park, 17738 W. Catawba Ave., Cornelius, NC 28031
Neighborhood: Cornelius
When: Oct. 22, 8 a.m.- noon
Details: The Cornelius Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists to offer fishing, environmental education, and arts and crafts for the whole family.
Cost: Free. Registration is required.
Halloween in Huntersville
Location: Huntersville Athletic Park, 11720 Verhoeff Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078
When: Oct. 23, 5-8 p.m.
Neighborhood: Huntersville
Details: Enjoy free entertainment, including balloon twisters, face painting, games, local craft vendors and a costume contest. Awards in the costume contest will be presented for cutest baby, best costumes, best homemade costume, best adult costume and best family costume. Food trucks will be on site with food and drinks available for purchase.

Oktoberfest
Location: Daveste Vineyards, 155 Lytton Farm Rd., Troutman, NC 28166
Neighborhood: Troutman
When: Oct. 22-23, 12-7 p.m.
Details: Guests can enjoy live accordion and polka-country music, gourmet bratwurst and pretzels, and drink specials on seasonal beers. Local vendors will be onsite from 12-5 p.m.
Cost: $16 for adults; Free for kids under 12. Tickets can be purchased online.
