Peek inside mystery buyer’s top-selling Lake Norman mansion near Trump golf course

A Lake Norman mansion with “panoramic vistas” became the highest-priced home sale of the year in its lakefront community near Trump National Golf Club Charlotte, agents involved in the transaction said Friday.

The home at 156 Union Chapel Drive in The Point community sold for $5.6 million, Susan Jakubowski of the Mooresville office of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty told The Charlotte Observer.

Jakubowski was the exclusive listing agent for the mansion.

The sale followed a “complete $1.5 million year-long renovation” by Kingswood Custom Homes, according to a news release by Premier Sotheby’s International Realty, based in Naples, Florida.

Who’s the owner?

Public records list a limited liability corporation as the buyer, 156 Union Chapel Drive LLC.

The LLC formed on Sept. 28, according to records on file with the N.C. Secretary of State’s Office in Raleigh.

No managing members of the LLC are listed in the documents, which provide a contact phone number in Marietta, Georgia.

The number rang Saturday to a real estate brokerage, Atlanta Exchange LLC, where no one replied to a message from The Charlotte Observer.

The mansion buyer prefers not to have their name listed, said Haley Fay, the buyer’s agent who is Jakubowski’s colleague at Premier Sotheby’s.

New scullery, bonus room

Before the mansion’s makeover, the two-story home “was hidden from the street, and landscaping was overgrown,” Premier Sotheby’s spokeswoman Elise Ramer told the Observer.

The mansion had high-end finishes, but its “sponged painted walls that are cranberry/orange wouldn’t work with today’s buyers,” Ramer said in an email.

Layouts were impractical, including an upstairs laundry closet and a curvy master bathroom, she said.

“The box-shaped (master bathroom) was taken up with curved showers and architectural elements (and TWO toilets), making it very difficult to utilize the space,” Ramer said.

During the renovations, the wine cellar was moved from the end of a hallway to adjoin the living room.

The mansion also had “mismatched” flooring, as every room had different floors, she said.

The mansion also needed more space, so a scullery was built onto the kitchen, along with a second bonus room that added over 500 square feet, she said.

‘Magnificent estate’

Built in 2001, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom home includes a “stately” two-story foyer framed by an “elegant” curved staircase, according to its listing.

Other features include large living areas; a grand great room with floor-to-ceiling lake scenes; a climate-controlled wine room; a detailed, wood-paneled library; and a lakefront game room with a wet bar.

The main-level owners’ suite includes waterfront views, a fireplace and a spa-like bath.

The mansion has 345 feet of shoreline, a saltwater pool, a spa and private pier, along with a boat lift, elevator and an over-sized three-car garage, according to its listing.

Jakubowski described the mansion as a “magnificent estate that encapsulates the finest in lakeside luxury.”
